Windermere was opened by the Williams family in 1946. It began with 6 cottages and a community (shared) kitchen! Since that time, the Williams family have developed a long history of providing family vacations in Stanhope. The original cottages have since been replaced with a total of 12 one, two and three bedroom units and the business is now under new ownership.
Our cottages are clean and well maintained. Most units have been redecorated within the past three or four years and contain everything you need for a comfortable stay next to the beach. Our goal is to ensure that guests have a great famiy vacation where they can relax in a quiet setting, enjoy the beach, campfires, the National Park and the surrounding attractions.
In peak season (July & August) reservations are strongly recommended.
What is your deposit refund policy?
Cancellation of a booking prior to May 1 will result in a full refund. After May 1, refunds are granted when the unit is re-booked and paid for. Any and all cancellations are subject to a forfeit of $50.00 from the deposit. Purchasing trip cancellation insurance should be considered.
Our location is a mere 350 metres (380 yards) from the sea-shore and you can see the water from Windermere.
The entrance to Windermere is located inside the National Park. We are situated in the Stanhope Beach area of the Park.
Do I have to pay the Park entry fee?
If you are a guest arriving at Windermere, the National Park will allow you to enter and leave without paying the Park fee. If you park your vehicle on National Park property, you are expected to have a paid-for pass. Cycling, hiking & beach activities do not require a pass.
What should I bring to the cottage?
Other than food and drink, we try to supply most of your needs for your stay. Dishes, cutlery, pots & pans, toaster, coffee maker and propane barbecues are in all of the cottages. We provide linens, blankets, pillows and toweling for each guest. We do not supply beach towels.
No. Linens are supplied and are replaced weekly. If your visit extends beyond 7 days, we will refresh your cottage. (by request) There are Laundromats nearby for personal laundry.
We have two wells on the property that are tested regularly for purity and bacteria. Approval for consumption has been awarded, year after year.
No. We regret that we had to change our policy a number of years ago because of liability concerns, it became necessary to exclude pets.
